Southern California Whiskey Club is having a special afternoon event with GlenAllachie Sales Director, David Keir joining us all the way from Scotland. The GlenAllachie Distillery, located in the Speyside region of Scotland, is a younger whisky distillery that is emerging as an award-winning single malt. For this global virtual tasting, we are exploring the complete core range from the 10 to the 25, a special 1989 vintage, and finishing with their newly released peated single malt blend.

event pour list:

1. GlenAllachie 10 year cask strength 57.1%ABV

2. GlenAllachie 12 year 46%ABV

3. GlenAllachie 15 year 46%ABV

4. GlenAllachie 18 year 46%ABV

5. GlenAllachie 25 year 48%ABV

6. GlenAllachie 1989 29 year Sherry Single Cask 55.1%ABV

7. MacNair’s Lum Reek 46%ABV

about the distillery:

One of the results of the US-fuelled 1960s whisky boom, GlenAllachie was built in 1967 by Scottish & Newcastle Breweries’ distilling subsidiary, Mackinlays. It is notable for being one of the distilleries designed by William Delmé-Evans who was also behind Macduff, Tullibardine and Jura. In 1985, Mackinlays became part of own-label specialist Invergordon Distillers which flipped Glenallachie to Campbell Distillers/Pernod Ricard four years later, during most of which it had been mothballed. In July 2017, it was announced that Chivas Brothers had agreed to sell GlenAllachie to The GlenAllachie Distillers Company, operated by former BenRiach MD Billy Walker, ex-Inver House Distillers MD Graham Stevenson and Trisha Savage. A capital ‘A’ was added to the distillery name, in keeping with the changes Walker made to BenRiach and GlenDronach under his stewardship.  Under the new ownership the fermentation times have been lengthened, lending the spirit a fruitier, and muscular quality. They have also introduced peated runs that now account for 20% of their production.

about MacNair’s Lum Reek:
Produced by the GlenAllachie Distillers Company. Built around a blend created by Billy Walker of peated Islay and Speyside whiskies, alongside with GlenAllachie single malt, this expression packs a satisfying peaty punch. It features whisky drawn from a combination of Oloroso, virgin oak and red wine casks. The name come from the Victorian distiller Harvey McNair, and the Scottish toast "Long may your lum reek!".

A big thanks to Elijah Ammon for making this happen!
