GLENMORANGIE MILSEAN LAUNCH

Thursday, February 11th, 2016

6:00pm - 8:30pm

location: Ysabel (945 N Fairfax Ave, West Hollywood, CA 90046)

Glenmorangie Milsean Launch @ Ysabel

SCWC was proud to have the honour of hosting Dr. Bill Lumsden as part of the launch for the annual Private Edition series from Glenmorangie.  The series is designed to showcase the continued creativity and innovation that has long been a hallmark of the north Highland distillery.  The Milsean (pronounced meel-shawn and meaning 'sweet things' in Gaelic) is the seventh such release in the Private Edition series and takes it in yet another different direction.  This new expression has been part matured for almost three years in ex-Portuguese red wine casks, which were heavily toasted before filling.  This has the effect of re-caramelising the natural sugars in the wood.

Glenmorangie was founded in 1843 by William Matheson and was originally named as Morangie. It is located in the town of Tain, which is about an hours drive north of Inverness, and took its current name in 1887. Glenmorangie is one of Scotland's larger single malt distilleries with an annual production capacity of six million litres. The copper pot stills are the tallest of their type in Scotland and stand over five metres (16.5 feet) tall. The distillery and brand are currently owned by Moet Hennessey, who purchased them in 2004. Glenmorangie is currently the fourth biggest selling single malt in the world.

The event was held in a beautiful restaurant in the heart of West Hollwood at Ysabel. Collared shirt + jacket is recomended for men (ladies already know how to dress appropriately).

EIGHT BLIND RYES

Thursday, June 23, 2016

Eight ryes were presented at the same time in color coded beakers. No info was given until the final reveal! Everyone was welcome to make unbiased notes and we did see a group consensus on the favorite whiskey of the night. Some of the ryes were “easy to find”, others were more “elusive”.

KILL BOTTLE NIGHT 2016

Sunday, December 11th

6:00pm - 9:00pm

location: Julien's Art Gallery (741 N La Cienega Blvd, West Hollywood, CA  90069)

(includes Vito's Pizza)

The annual kill bottle event is finally happening - and it’s going to be in an art gallery with awesome pizza! Those of you who have been to these in the past know exactly what to expect. For those of you who are new to the club, the Kill Bottle is the meeting where we clean out the cellar. There will be a bunch of whiskies of different types and ages from past SCWC events that have been hanging out for too long and need to be finished off. This meeting is casual, it is a good chance to meet other members of the club, try a bunch of different types of whiskies, and celebrate the end of the year.

Food is included - we will be ordering Vito's pizza for everyone (arguably the best pizza in LA). Weather permitting we will have this outdoors on the 2nd floor balcony, so bring a jacket to stay warm.
