Come join us for a chill evening with Charlie McRae, the National Brand Ambassador for Balcones Distillery, visiting us all the way from Waco, Texas. We’ll be pouring a bunch of their standard expressions and sampling numerous interesting single-barrel expressions. Balcones is pure Texan style that keeps winning awards and leading the way for American Single Malt with its creativity. This is going to be an awesome time to chat about Texas whiskey, enjoy some fine pours, and hang out with great company.

about the distillery
Named after the nearby Balcones Fault line, the distillery was founded in Waco, Texas in 2008 by Chip Tate and others who aimed to create unique spirits. A bit of drama hit in 2014 that led to the ouster of founder Chip Tate, but Balcones bounced back huge in 2016, swapping a cramped welding shop for a larger location a few blocks down the street. Jared Himstedt and other members helped found the American Single Malt Whiskey Commission (ASMWC), which successfully advocated for federal recognition of American Single Malt as an official whisky category. Today, Balcones is known for its "grain-to-glass" approach, using quality ingredients (including Texas-grown Elbon rye and blue corn) and unique processes like long, open fermentation that allows local microflora to influence the flavor profile. The distillery continues to produce a range of acclaimed spirits, including bourbons, rye, and rum, and has won over 350 national and international awards. [link]
