Southern California Whiskey Club is thrilled to welcome back one of our favorite Scottish distilleries! Remember when we met back in October 2018 with co-founder Alasdair Day at The Phoenix? Well, we’re doing it all over again! We’ll kick off the night with a special welcome cocktail created by the talented staff at The Phoenix. It’s going to be a fun and educational evening filled with stories and questions about this incredible distillery and the amazing spirits they produce. And after the tasting, we’d love for you to stay for dinner to support The Phoenix for hosting us. Hope to see you there!
about the distillery:
Isle of Raasay Distillery was founded in 2014 with the first whisky being made in 2017. It is the first legal distillery on this small island with a population of around 160 people. The Isle of Raasay Distillery began distilling in September 2017. It takes three years of maturation in oak cask before they can legally call the spirit “whisky”. All maturation is carried out on the island in their own warehouse behind the distillery, which will maximize the influence of the variable Hebridean climate on the final single malt whisky. Working with local crofters, they are growing barley in a nearby field, the first time in over 40 years. They intend to expand such collaboration across Raasay, while using local peat to dry the barley to eventually craft a special release of 100% Isle of Raasay single malt. [link]
